Here’s the new music out today worth adding to your library—both singles and full EPs or albums.
Singles
LANY - “I Don’t Wanna Love You Anymore”
Nightly - “S.T.A.Y.”
Barns Courtney - “99”
Boygenius - “Me & My Dog”
Empress Of - “When I’m With Him”
Hippo Campus - “Bambi”
Lots of gems out today including songs from Empress Of, Hippo Campus, and the new collab from Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lucy Dacus called boygenius.
Boygenius is a super group of sad. Intellectually I should love these all of these artists’ individual work, but I just never have really. It never sunk in. Joined together, however, I find the music more appealing. It’s very similar their other work, but also not.
Albums
Fall Out Boy - Lake Effect Kid
Ian Ewing - Overnight EP
Joey Dosik - Inside Voice
Your Smith - Bad Habit EP
Blood Orange - Negro Swan
It’s been a long time since I’ve been excited by new Fall Out Boy songs. It felt like for the last 10 years the band just continued to lean into a type of rock ‘n roll where the objective was to add as many sounds as possible until you’re crushed by the weight. The essence was lost long ago. But here we are in 2018 and “City in a Garden” is like getting slapped in the face by 2006. It’s new, it’s old, it’s melodic, and it’s Patrick Stump just straight up singing which is all great. “Super Fade” breaks the effect, but two out of three ain’t bad.
Joey Dosik is also offering a bit unique if you’re looking for something different. Full of R&B and soul, Inside Voice is a lush and beautiful album.
