Troye Sivan’s new album Bloom is a better version of what Harry Styles debut album should have been. It feels like each song is more well crafted and waddled down to its essence. I really like the sonic difference between “My My My” and “The Good Side.”While Matthew Thiessen (of Relient K) is trying something new with a stripped down solo album, it carries all his signature skills. There are simple melodies which build on each other. There’s also an authenticity in the music that suggests he uses music to pursue his curiosity for life. “Forest” is an odd lyrical song which focuses on Robin Hood, but it’s hooks are ones that make me keep hitting play, over and over.
Ever since I saw Kitten at SXSW years ago, I’ve been a sucker for the band’s indie rock music. I don’t love every song, but they keep on putting out some excellent ones.
