No slight meant, none is the lesser, but I see Tokyo Police Club as the punk version of Vampire Weekend’s yacht rock. There’s a similarity in the way both bands’ work the melodies of songs until the music is completely complimentary to what they want to say. And each of respective songwriter has a knack for clever word play. All that to say, “Simple Dude” continues to ramp up anticipation for the band’s upcoming album.
A bunch of these releases this week don’t need any hype. You probably were going to listen to Hozier and Milo Greene without any prompting. But make sure you check out the others though.
The Blaze is a hypnotizing electronic debut. The Bootstraps covers album isn’t exactly new, but worth the time. I’m hoping St. Paul & The Broken Bells are well known by now, but if you are on their soul train, it’s time to hop on with this new release.
